Relaxation Protocol

The relaxation protocol was designed and developed by Dr. Karen Overall. It is taken from her book “Clinical Behavioral Medicine for Small Animals”.

The relaxation protocol is a way to teach your dog to be calm and relaxed, even with distractions going on around them in a variety of circumstances. This is an important life skill to teach any dog and is foundational to a lot of training plans.

The protocol is beneficial for all dogs from puppies all the way through to older dogs. It is particularly helpful for stressed, fearful, reactive and anxious dogs.

The protocol is broken down into 15 days. However, I would suggest taking one to two months to work through the days or longer if needed. The days start relatively easy and progressively get harder as you work through the days. The goal is to help your dogs to be calm, relaxed and less reactive.

I have a passion for supporting reactive dog guardians and their dogs. I’m a firm believer that to truly make a difference in the lives of dogs and their guardians, we need to support both ends of the lead.

Harry is my heart dog, he is the reason why I became a dog trainer. He is a whirlwind of fun who you will get to see in many of the Hub videos.
