What makes my approach different

There are a lot of behaviourists to choose from, so here’s a little about me and the way I work.

Supporting You as Much as Your Dog

I understand how stressful and overwhelming life with a worried, reactive or unsettled dog can feel. When working with me, you'll always be supported with empathy, understanding, practical guidance and no judgement.

Looking Beyond the Behaviour

When a dog exhibits problematic behaviour, there's often more going on than what we see on the surface. They may be overwhelmed, worried, frustrated or finding certain situations genuinely difficult to cope with. As an ABTC Clinical Animal Behaviourist, dog trainer and ACE Advanced Tutor, I'm trained to identify what else might be contributing to those difficulties, so that we can address what's actually driving them.

A More Individualised Approach

Every dog is different and so is the support I offer. I take into account each dog's unique history, individual sensitivities, environment and emotional wellbeing, so that what we work on is specifically tailored to them.

Meaningful, Lasting Change

Alongside addressing your dog's behaviour, my aim is to help you understand your dog better, feel more confident in supporting them and enjoy your life together.

"Sonia is very knowledgeable about all things related to our canine companions. Her enthusiasm and energy are infectious and I have learnt so much from her. My dog and I have developed a really special bond and I put so much of that down to working with Sonia and taking part in a variety of different Challenges and Quests that can be found on The Hub. I would have no hesitation in recommending Sonia and Confident Canine."

Answers to your most common questions

Every dog is unique, and the time it takes to see progress can vary. Some dogs may start showing positive changes straight away, while others may need more time. The key is that we’ll work at a pace that suits your dog, ensuring they feel safe and supported throughout the process. The aim is to make gradual, lasting improvements, not quick fixes.

It is completely normal for dogs to take time to adjust, and each dog progresses at their own pace. If you feel that your dog isn’t responding as you would have hoped, don’t worry, I’ll be here to support you every step of the way. We’ll reassess the plan together and make any necessary adjustments. Progress can be gradual, and small steps forward are still progress. Rest assured, we’ll continue working at a pace that feels comfortable for both you and your dog.

Yes, absolutely! Your support doesn’t stop after our consultation. You’ll have the option to book additional behavioural sessions at a discounted rate, should you need further guidance. Plus, as part of the Confident Canine Hub, you’ll be part of a supportive community where you can share experiences, ask questions, and continue receiving advice to help you and your dog progress together.

This approach is designed to meet your dog exactly where they are, respecting their individual pace and needs. I use kind, science-based methods that create trust and understanding, ensuring that both you and your dog feel supported throughout the process. If you have any concerns or uncertainties, we can discuss them beforehand to ensure this is the right fit for you and your dog.

I understand that implementing a behaviour plan can feel overwhelming at times. That’s why I’m here to guide you through every step. The plan will be clear and easy to follow, and I’ll be available for support whenever you need it. You're never alone in this process; we’ll go at a pace that works for you and your dog.

My approach is grounded in empathy, understanding, and reward-based techniques. I prioritise your dog’s overall wellbeing, addressing their emotional, mental, and physical needs with a rewarding and compassionate approach. I work at your dog’s pace, respecting their individual needs, and use methods that build trust, confidence, and a deeper connection between you and your dog. Instead of offering quick fixes, I aim to create lasting, meaningful changes that strengthens your relationship, ensuring both you and your dog feel safe, supported, and understood throughout the process.
